The
Bombay is named for the Indian leopard. The cat has a lustrous black
coat and round, copper-colored eyes. Development of the breed was begun
by Nikki Horner, of Louisville, Kentucky, in 1953 by crossing a black
American Shorthair and a sable Burmese. Today’s Bombay, the result of
many years of careful breeding, looks much like a Burmese, except for it
striking coat. The breed was accorded CFA Championship status in 1976. |
