A
panoramic view of the road, barns, ponds, and hilly meadows is available
from the sunroom at the opposite end of the house. The room has a glass door
that opens onto a courtyard, which is often occupied by our dogs. A guest
bedroom and office also overlooks the courtyard and provides a good view of
the ponds, vegetable gardens, and ornamental tress planted alongside the
ponds. This is a much-used room, as it houses our computer.

When someone is using the computer, there are usually cats or a dog on the
bed and cats on the desk, or perhaps on the carpet-covered shelf under the
window.

The cattery proper is downstairs. The area was converted from “normal”
rooms, so the only architectural features that suggest that the area is
anything but additional living space are the screen doors on the rooms. The
largest part of the cattery is a large recreation room and kitchen. The room
contains typical game-room furniture

and a large cat tree. (Actually,
cat trees are all over the house, as are cat-themed art and craft objects.)
Breeding males are segregated from the other cats, but they, too, receive
plenty of love and attention. The overall ambience is one of harmony and
tranquility.
