Kittens
are always born upstairs in the second-floor master bedroom, which can
easily be made dark and quiet. Mothers seem to appreciate this, and they are
very particular about who gets to be in attendance during delivery. Mother
and kittens live in the bedroom until the kittens are ready to venture out
on their own.
Some cats have the run of the
house, and one can encounter a cat or cat toy underfoot unexpectedly. Cats
are often found

sleeping in various cat
beds, on human beds, and on couches and chairs. They sometimes cuddle up
with the dogs. The place comes alive when someone opens a can of cat food,
however.

Most of the animals—certainly
those who inhabit the house, anyway—have a blasé attitude toward visitors,
whether child or adult. Having grandchildren living nearby means that both
children and adults are often around, in addition to other cats and dogs.
The major exception to this rule
is Sarah Jane Potts, the blue-and-white matriarch of

the cattery who
disappears when guests arrive, and only returns to domestic society when
they have left.
Perhaps you now know more than you wanted to about FrankLee Cattery and
about Spotted Acres Farm. The farm is, as we had hoped it would be, a kind
of vacation spot away from the cares of the modern world that we get to visit
every day. Perhaps you will drop by one day to visit us and the happy
Tonkinese (and, of course, the other animals) with whom we share our lives. |
